Selling on the Internet, Knowing What to Sell and Where to Get It

So you want to sell online, well there are millions of product to sell but you do not know which ones or where to get them. When it comes to picking products to sell, it's much better to have too many choices than not enough. There are literally thousands of new sellers breaking into the online market every day; all over the internet. You do not want to be forced to sell "the same old things all the other online sellers are selling" which is what happens with most other wholesale directories/services you find online. If you are really serious about starting an online business you need to find the best wholesalers that WANT to work with you. If you are serious you need to find Wholesalers that are looking for small seller like you. Did you know many (now professional online sellers) did not know what they were going to sell when they started either? It's true. They knew they wanted to make money on eBay or start an online store but they were not sure what to sell. They really were not sure how to find the right products to sell.

Professional online sellers uncover amazing product niches by doing some surprisingly simple market research steps. Even if they have an idea of what they want to sell, they won't sell it until they have thoroughly researched that product market to find out if that product will be good for their business or bad. What kind of product should I Sell? If you're on a tight budget then you can't afford to waste any money testing the market with 'this product' and 'that product' to find the one that will make you money. Niche products are the secret weapon of small home-based online sellers. Why? Because niche markets are often ignored by the 'big guys' who generally only focus on selling those hot mainstream products like computers, I pods, designer handbags and etc. They want to sell to the largest crowds and niche markets are massive, they're targeted. Niche products have very targeted markets because they're products that appeal to a certain group of people. For example, some people really dig Bean Bag Chairs...and some people don't. Now, I don't personally like Bean Bag Chairs because they are too hard get up from once you plop down...but despite my feelings, there are tens of thousands of other people who do like Bean Bag Chairs. And when you have ten's of thousands of potential customers out there willing to plop down anywhere from to 0 bucks for a product...well, you do the math. Niche products can be extremely lucrative to sell online and typically cost your business a fraction of what it costs to sell the more popular mainstream products.

Now, when some people get overwhelmed and can't figure out what to sell they default to just looking up some products they like. Then when they find out those products aren't such a great idea, they give up. If you're serious about making an online business work then you have to look deeper than just a few products you like. It's ok to research products you like; just don't let those be the ONLY products you look into selling. When you join One Source you will have access to a large database of products you have to organize your attack. You have to start somewhere and chances are you do have some products in mind. So a good way to start is by researching 3 products at a time: 1 product you like, 1 product you are interested in and research 1 product you know nothing about! You may not believe this now, but it's usually the 3rd product that gives the best results! People (especially new sellers) tend to gravitate towards the same types of products to sell at first and so they do not venture into niche markets that most sellers never consider. That saturates certain markets with too many sellers: like electronics, clothing and computers but keeps many niche markets ripe for selling. The key here is to take full advantage of the size and variety of what is available not just focusing on ONLY the products YOU like. And it does not matter if you know much about the product personally. Most wholesalers will provide you with important product descriptions to help you tap into your market. Everything else you can find out with a few simple market research steps.

A mistake you can easily make though is looking at the "demand numbers" and making decisions based on how big that number is. You might think "the bigger the better" but that's not always the case. Niche Products will always show a lower demand than popular mainstream products. Why? Because, by definition, "a niche" is a subset of products that only appeal to a certain group of buyers...not the mainstream crowd. For example the demand for Laptop Computers is always high. It's not uncommon to see the keyword counts being 60,000, 70,000 or more searches a month for laptop computers. Laptops are a high demand, mainstream item. No question about it. Many varieties of Tents, however, show much less demand. It's not uncommon to see a keyword count of around 10,000 searches or less for certain tents. Tents have a lower demand than laptops...but that doesn't mean that laptops are better products to sell. When you apply some additional market research you find that Laptops have an insane amount of competition online, extremely high selling costs and you won't be able to compete if you have them drop shipped. Certain varieties of tents, however, have good profit margins, the competition isn't that bad and the selling costs are very low. It's a niche market even a new seller can fill! Remember, small demand on the internet can still mean tens of thousands of shoppers a month and that equals profits for niche sellers. If you are serious about setup an online business you HAVE to invest into research.
